Verse 14
“14Then Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn.”
– Genesis 48:14 (NKJV)
“Then Israel stretched out (“behold, the Lord’s hand is not . . . short that it cannot save” – Isaiah 59:1) his right hand (“o sing to the Lord a new song , for He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him” – Psalm 98:1) and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly (i.e. willfully; deliberately), for Manasseh was the firstborn (and here for the second time in as many generations we see the effects of that first prophetic utterance from The Lord at Jacob’s own birth come to pass: “and the Lord said to her: “two nations are in your womb, two peoples shall be separated from your body; one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older shall serve the younger” [Gen 25:23]; nevertheless, despite the tragedy that is Esau’s life and what this would suggest concerning Manasseh, I do believe there is always opportunity for redemption and growth and victory in the next generation, hidden and alluded to also in the mysteries associated with The Left Hand of God [Song of Songs 2:6] as well as the Higher Law of The Kingdom postulating that “the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves” [Luke 22:26]. How beautifully then does this not tie together The Personhood of Our Beloved Lord, who is all at once, “The Servant Of All” and “The Firstborn Of Many”).”
Beloved Friends,
May I Kindly be permitted this one ‘Deus ex machina’?
