Verse 27
“27 “Benjamin is a
ravenous wolf;
In the morning he shall
devour the prey,
And at night he shall
divide the spoil.”
– Genesis 49:27 (NKJV)
“Benjamin (albeit the second son of Rachel – most beloved wife of Jacob – and Joseph’s full biological brother whom he instantly loved in principle by merit of this, his very identity, little is known about Benjamin the person and one can consequently merely surmise as to what the words to follow reveal, either about his own personhood, or the Tribe of Israel he will come to represent if interpreted at the hand of similar imagery found throughout The Scriptures) is a ravenous wolf (“wolf” being a depiction most often used to describe an abject enemy of God’s People – such a one as seeks to devour The Sheep [Ezek 34, Psalm 23, John 10] – and also sometimes the image of imposter or false prophet: the more subtle “wolf in sheep’s clothing” [Matt 7:15]; it is also worth noting in the word “ravenous” the flesh-associated and driven lust to completely consume its prey); In the morning (without any scruples as to The Presence of The Dawning S[o]n [Ps 19]) he shall devour the prey (seek to fill his belly: that insatiable abyss [Phil 3:19] that lusts after the blood of God’s own People), And at night (when amongst his kindred, who hide in the “shadows” [Ps 23:4] and are “of the night” [1 Thess 5:5]) he shall divide the spoil (tantalise and seduce others to develop a taste for blood and even exceed the measure of his own wickedness, as they, in turn, then become those who hunt and devour prey the next morning: ‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.’ – Matt 23:15).”
