Genesis 45:9-11

Verses 9-11

9”Hurry and go up to my father, and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph: “God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry [“delay”]. 10You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near to me, you and your children, your children’s children, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have. 11There I will provide for you, lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty; for there are still five years of famine.” ‘ ”

– Genesis 45:9-11 (NKJV)

“Hurry and go up to my father(despite it all being worked out for glorious Good by God, Joseph must surely at this point be at least somewhat frustrated with himself for tarrying the process with his ill-advised plan designed to hold onto Benjamin a little longer; Jacob is after all quite elderly, possibly already mourning the potential loss of yet another beloved child, even possibly child-ren plural, and he, together with his extended family, have been without sufficient nourishment for a considerable amount of time; all of which must have a debilitating effect upon every facet of his health, not only physically, but emotionally, mentally and spiritually; surely save for the Grace of God, there is not a second to lose, for let us not forget, despite the grand reveal before the brothers, poor Jacob is yet in ignorance as to these most recent developments and will continue to be for the time it takes the brothers to make the journey – easily another two to three days, if not more) and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph: (notice once again the confidence, assurance and resolution with which Joseph now refers to Jacob as my father “ and to himself, in respect of him, as your son “; one can truly, truly see that the revelation of Joseph’s identity has most assuredly been released in the spirit and manifest in the natural for all intents and purposes and according to the Perfect Will of God as an incontestable fact carrying its full weight in significance, authority and effect) “God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry(Let us keep in view that such literally unbelieve-able news, when delivered second-hand, without the Godly authority, sincere tone of Truth, and gentle, once-familiar eyes of Joseph himself to deliver it, must be almost near impossible to accept, and let us also not forget that up until the point of the brothers’ fateful return and such incredible news is delivered unto him, Jacob must surely be hard-pressed not to be tempted unto great dismay, hopelessness even abject despair if he were to stare at his circumstances even a moment too long, for up until this point, save for absolute, resolute Hope and Faith in God, they do not paint a pretty picture, but rather suggest imminent death all round. In view of all this, it is little wonder then that Joseph should wish them to urge Jacob with great insistence not to tarry, but make haste, lest he stop and think about this seemingly irrational journey he is about to undertake in his advanced age, and allow any doubt to fester, lest his heart fail him and he cease to obey this all important call. Notice also the intimacy inherent in the phrase: come . . . to me “ not only reminiscent of, but prophetically indicative of the very Words of Our Lord, in lieu of circular time.) You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near to me, you and your children, your children’s children, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have. There I will provide for you, (notice the Godly authority and decisiveness inherent in these phrases, not only insofar as Joseph is a competent, experienced and wise ruler, well-versed in commanding, delegating and decision-making as is befitting such a role, but it is almost as if he is speaking on behalf of God Himself, his very representative to Jacob in these moments, effecting His very Holy Promises to his humble servant and forefather of His Covenant People; Joseph is effectively speaking prophecy into existence – these are not mere suggestions or invitations to blessings or providence, this is the very calling of things that are not yet into existence as if they already are; the very “substance of things not seen”, as it were, as evidenced in phrases such as: you shall “ and I will “) lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty; for there are still five years of famine.”‘ (Again we recognise that same decisiveness and authority that speaks the prophetic utterances of God revealed as absolute Truth and accepted as such on the basis of Sincere Faith, even the very Gift of God Almighty alone, and not by any human or natural or visibly manifest means, as is evidenced for example in the phrase: there are still five years of famine .)
