Genesis 43:29-31

Verses 29-31

“Then he lifted his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, (having surely anticipated the possibility of – dependent upon the Will of the Father made manifest through the at times exceedingly precarious seeming actions and decisions of Jacob and his sons – this moment with eager yearning and deep desire, one can only imagine the overwhelming ache for his only paternal and maternal sibling that overcomes our dear Joseph in these moments: truly the most exceedingly precious, individually tailored gift imaginable that literally fills such a highly specific void in the very heart of Joseph – given him from the Hand of God Himself – and in turn rendering the pitiful material gift, so irrationally in hindsight relied upon for atonement by at least some of the brothers, wholly irrelevant even laughable by comparison now) “Is this your younger brother of whom you spoke to me?” (The truth of it already confirmed in his spirit, yet almost too unbearably glorious to fully embrace, Joseph seeks ultimate confirmation in the natural also.) And he said, “God be gracious to you, my son.” (Upon receiving confirmation Joseph’s very first utterance is an expression of wholly other-centred, Agape Love: A Priestly Blessing; his first desire is not to possess the object of his utter delight for his own sake, but rather the blessing of that other by the One True God; Knowing as a man of True Faith that HE is the only One able to sufficiently, adequately bestow true blessing upon his beloved brother.) Now his heart yearned for his brother; so Joseph made haste and sought somewhere to weep. (So heart-wrenchingly overwhelming is the flood of Love that engulfs him, that Joseph must literally flee the scene, lest the extent of his emotional expression betray his identity before the given time: for surely men must know that none other than a long-estranged, beloved blood brother could weep with such a deep stirring of the heart.) And he went into his chamber and wept there. (The beauty of this seemingly small detail, namely the chosen location where Joseph feels most comfortable, nay most able, to pour forth such strong emotion, is exceedingly significant; for most assuredly I say to you it his “inner closet”, his “secret place” : the place reserved for deep union and intimacy with his Lord and his wife, the very “love seat” where he worships his King, where wisdom is imparted, where he receives his strength, seeks refuge, is sustained and where new life is birthed, this is where he pours out this deep longing and yearning of Love now fulfilled in the beholding of his dear, dear Benjamin.) Then he washed his face and came out; and he restrained himself, (the true servant of God never feels or weeps for feeling or weeping’s sake, nor to seek the appraisal of mere men as one who feels deeply, no, it is never scrutinised or analysed by the servant himself, but merely a perfectly true, perfectly sincere, perfectly valid, perfectly spontaneous expression and once it has found its utterance to the full, mostly in the Presence of its God, it is able to view with objectivity and deep wisdom that it would rarely serve self, others or God for it to be made manifest for observation or scrutiny, except possibly on occasion by the one with whom it has become one flesh: its spouse; in this instance specifically for example, it is imperative that not all be revealed to the brothers before the appointed time, lest they should detect the strong emotion birthed in Joseph during these pivotal moments) and said, “Serve the bread (and Finally – as alluded to previously – we have here a veiled reference to the very Body of Christ: “The True Bread Come Down From Heaven” that promises True Everlasting Life and Union with The True FATHER to all who eat of it; His very Flesh consumed symbolically by those for whom it has been ordained, namely here the very Tribes of Israel united here under one roof; kindly refer to the whole of John 6 again and again in this blessed regard).”

29Then he lifted his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your younger brother of whom you spoke to me?” And he said, “God be gracious to you, my son.” 30Now his heart yearned for his brother; so Joseph made haste and sought somewhere to weep. And he went into his chamber and wept there. 31Then he washed his face and came out; and he restrained himself, and said, “Serve the bread.”
