Verses 46-49
“Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. (i.e. The age at which he was summoned and finally enjoyed an audience with Pharaoh; the very encounter that changed his life completely and can be compared to any life-changing encounter where we are called by the Most High God; King of All. This is of course also the same age at which our Beloved Lord Jesus began His ministry here on earth.) And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. (This oft repeated phrase in the narrative is significant in that it prompts one to go out from the Presence of the Lord, where one is summoned, called, empowered and equipped, to be actively fruitful in the world and yield a harvest for The Kingdom.) Now in the seven plentiful years the ground (notice how it is by definition the very elements of the planting, sowing and reaping process – to which God alone holds the keys of power – that are determining the yield, lest any man should boast during the years of plenty nor any man be afflicted with a false sense of guilt during the years of famine) brought forth abundantly (literally: “by handfuls”). So he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities; he laid up in every city the food of the fields which surrounded them. (It is clear by implication that the land(s) of Egypt were great in the time, consisting of many a populous city: it truly is a marvel how Joseph rose from such abject obscurity to lead so powerfully and steward his dominion with such discernment as to effect all that we see here. Truly, truly his leadership ability must have been unparalleled and the Lord forever before- and with him, for not only would he have to govern the practical and logistical elements of such a great hoarding feat, in terms of say the securing and / or building of storage facilities, but also the equipping, leading and delegating of men and manpower, not to mention knowledge of the chemical implications of preservation and the engineering of the necessary tools at every step of the way throughout the process.) Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was immeasurable.” (It is critical to note here that Joseph never once allowed himself to be lulled into complacency by the seeming abundance – the temporary concrete facts seen in front of him with his physical eyes – to doubt the Word of the Lord concerning the coming famine: the things not seen but accepted by Faith. As a matter of fact, every additional seemingly unnecessary measure of grain gathered serving as a testimony to that mountain-moving Faith, as seen also in Noah when building the ark long before the rains came.)
“46Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. 47Now in the seven plentiful years the ground brought forth abundantly. 48So he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities; he laid up in every city the food of the fields which surrounded them. 49Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was immeasurable.”
