Genesis 40:9-15

Verses 9-15

“Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “Behold, in my dream a vine was before me, and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes. Then Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.” (Recognise the ever-so-familiar symbols of the number three, the vine, grapes or wine, and the cup that run throughout Scripture as some of the Lord’s most beloved and preferred images and metaphors – or perhaps even something more than mere parabolic devices that we have not yet been Graced to comprehend – with which He relates to us.) And Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: (notice the unreserved and unwavering confidence with which Joseph puts forth the interpretation, the same man who mere moments ago credited God alone with possessing the interpretation of dreams is here fully convinced that he himself has become a representative of God on earth, not unlike the Lord Jesus : Joseph grasps this eternal Truth – “Christ in us, the hope of glory” – without the help of any New Covenantal Scriptures or known Revelation to lean upon, but by Faith alone 😃, and it is counted to him as righteousness ☺️.) The three branches are three days. Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place (or: “position”), and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler. (How glorious to behold that many an element of the dream is in fact not  interpreted, or revealed to Joseph at this point in time, apart from that which is pertinent and has bearing on the current situation. The remainder of the elements and their consequent interpretation is locked away until such a time as this, the culmination of the age, when the Holy Spirit has been poured out on all flesh [Acts 2:17], and all is methodically unfolded according to God’s Perfect Timing as we pour over these Scriptures of old with fresh eyes and new Revelation, as given unto us 🤲🏽😃.) But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house *(How heartbreaking to see our, dear young Joseph so vulnerable as he pleads with those he has been called to serve; watching them be delivered before him. It is almost painful to behold how he humbles himself before a far lesser man than he. We can only imagine his anguish in having to behold this supernatural intervention of the Lord in the life of a man who doesn’t carry the same anointing that Joseph does. How he must have doubted himself in this moment, presumably acting in his own strength by making this request to ensure his deliverance from this very literal bondage; and yet at the same time we know that God will ultimately use this moment of weakness to secure his deliverance anyway, but only at the right time and in accordance with His Perfect Will, proving again and again that He truly does make all things work together for those who are called according to His purpose.) For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews;  (what an apt prophetic description of what it means to be led out of the Garden and into darkness before entering the Promised Land!) and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon (it is of critical importance for us to see that Joseph, despite the aforementioned momentary lapse into doubting, is secure in his knowledge of the Truth: resolute in holding fast to his innocence; he has not been tempted into making the grave mistake of being gaslighted into assuming any guilt wrongfully, since, even if perhaps he entertained a momentary fleshly thought when originally provoked by Potiphar’s wife – we know, and he knows that, he “DID. NOT. SIN!”).”

* Whenever I do my daily Holy Spirit inspired, choreographed Lord’s Prayer Dance and bow low, cradling my loved ones in a symbolic circular gesture of Love and pleading that our “Father’s Will be done in their lives as it already is in all of Heaven”, I consciously think on and include: a) all the members of my physical household; also when sometimes pray-dancing in this way at night before bed, b) all my dearest friends and acquaintances at the gym, as well as every member present there at that given moment, when doing so in the gym studio and c) The Lord’s Body entire and / or His smaller Body at my local church. At the time of first writing this study I gratefully received the Revelation on one such gym day, that I have effectually established a “house” there with “family members” of its very own in precisely the same way that I have a house at home and at church with its family members. I then came to realise that those “given” us by the Father (see John 17), as a little flock to Love, pray and care for becomes one’s household in that very place. It consequently follows that Joseph would refer to the prison as “this house” for precisely that reason, even as God had ordained for him to have dominion over and serve the prisoners there in Love for an appointed season.

9Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “Behold, in my dream a vine was before me, 10and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it had budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes. 11Then Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”

12And Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days. 13Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler. 14But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house. 15For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon.”
