Verses 12-13
“12So his sons did for him just as he had commanded them. 13For his sons carried him to the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite as property for a burial place.”
– Genesis 50:12-13 (NKJV)
“So his sons (acting under the headship of Joseph whom Jacob first implored individually [Gen 48:21] before sharing the weight of the responsibility amongst all his sons in the assembly [Gen 49:29-33]. Please recognise also the coinciding profound image of Christ the FirstFruit – and then all of God’s true sons and daughters in the aftermath – in the outworking of The Father’s Will in the earth [Col 1:18]) did (obedience) for him just as (perfect obedience) he had commanded them (not only is the death and burial of The Final Patriarch of The Faith a weighty God-ordained matter which was always willed to come to pass [as we here enjoy in its fulfilment], but again the coinciding message we ought to acknowledge here is the earthly parallel of obedience to the commandments of the father that is the mark of mature sons [John 14:21]). For his sons carried him to the land of Canaan (what a precious, precious image Dear Reader: that a respected giant of The Faith should be ushered into Heavenly Places on the backs of redeemed children: that the next generation, the very descendants called into being by the weighty, urgent, reiterated Promise of God since Abraham, should serve the former generation in such a profound and Godly way) and buried him (from where he will be resurrected and ascend; the precious image of Our Risen King risen from the tomb, not only working “ahead” [linear time being but an arbitrary, temporary construct within this age], but working backwards to secure the resurrection and ascension of all the true sons of God forevermore]) in the cave (the final instance in Jacob’s earthly life where the symbol of the cave, the “hidden place” of “refuge” and “shelter” – as become a symbol throughout the Scriptures e.g. also for Elijah and King David – manifests, where he must arm himself against wicked, opposing forces [though already deceased; his earthly body yet a representation of God’s glories and therein worth fighting over: see Jude’s Epistle; opposing forces who only enjoy any measure of jurisdiction upon fallen earth, and even that only at the behest of God: see Isaiah 54:16-17] by “hiding in the shadow of His wings”, as represented by “the cave”, before enjoying eternity in His Presence unopposed forever 😊) of the field (to be found in the field Jacob as a true son sacrificed all to purchase for the treasure it contains symbolically [Matt 13:44]) of Machpelah, before Mamre, which Abraham bought (the field Abraham as a true son sacrificed all to purchase for the treasure it contains both literally and symbolically) with the field (exchanging one territory for another in a blessed expression of the “sózó” [GRK] transfer that takes places as a redeemed child exchanges the kingdom of darkness for The Kingdom of His Glorious Light [1 Pet 2:9]) from Ephron the Hittite as property (ordained unto God . . .) for a burial place (. . . for such a glorious culminating Purpose as this; the joining of The Three Patriarchs in the earth mirroring the profound mystery of being both Triune and One now complete, united eternally in Heavenly Places).”
