Genesis 49:26

Verse 26

26 The blessings of your father

          Have excelled the blessings

            of my ancestors,

          Up to the utmost bound

of the everlasting hills.

          They shall be on the

            head of Joseph,

          And on the crown of

            the head of him who

            was separate from

his brothers.”

– Genesis 49:26 (NKJV)

“The blessings of your father * Have excelled the blessings of my ancestors (most assuredly overcome by the experience of the Power of The Holy Spirit coursing through him as he makes these most profound Prophetic utterances & having come to the knowledge of the fact, at least in part, that he has been established as a ‘Patriarch of The Faith’ for God’s People for generations to come under both the Old and New Covenants, one can only imagine Jacob’s awe at what he has been privy to share in, counting himself blessed – more blessed even than his forefathers – despite having suffered much in the earth; see also Matt 13:17 and Heb 11:13), Up to the utmost bound (to the hilt of the knowledge that God had ordained His People to share in at this point in history) of the everlasting hills (whilst still upon the earth prior to entering The Ultimate Promised Land; The Celestial City; also see Ps 121:1-2). They shall be on the head of Joseph (Joseph will be anointed with the knowledge of ‘The Deep Things of God’, for anointing is upon the head; see also Phil 3:8), And on the crown (not only is Jacob speaking Prophetically concerning Joseph’s remaining time upon the earth, but is also testifying as to ‘The Crown of Life’ received in the hereafter, bestowed upon those who persevere under trials and Love God; see also James 1:12 and Rev 2:10) of the head (pay attention also to the shift from the anatomical symbol of “the hands”, both God’s and Joseph’s, that are indicative of reach, influence, doing, serving and seeking, in previous verses, to “the head”, which speaks of overcoming, positions of exaltation & authority, receiving, inheritance and resting) of him who was separate from his brothers (set apart, sanctified, Holy unto God, His most Treasured Possession: a principle which, if extrapolated to a larger sphere, becomes the very image of God’s People in the earth; see also Psalm 135:4).”

* Finally, it is perhaps also just worth noting that “[t]he blessings of your father ” are of course here also a double-play on the blessings of Joseph’s Heavenly Father in addition to that of his earthly father Jacob.
