Genesis 49:5-7

Verses 5-7

5Simeon and Levi

are brothers;

   Instruments of cruelty are

in their dwelling place.

      6Let not my soul enter

their council;

       Let not my honour be united

to their assembly;

       For in their anger they

slew a man,

       And in their self-will they

hamstrung an ox.

     7Cursed be their anger,

for it is fierce;

      And their wrath,

for it is cruel!

      I will divide them in Jacob

      And scatter them in Israel.”

– Genesis 49:5-7 (NKJV)

“Simeon and Levi are brothers (for though they are all brothers, Simeon and Levi are united in particular in the commonality of their sin – their murderous bent – and dare I say having even become demonised in this area as a collective, they are now spurring- and being spurred on by one another reciprocally. In their having given the enemy a foothold in unison * they are now (re-)enacting his exacting demands in the natural sphere as a team); Instruments of cruelty are in their dwelling place (recognise here again not only the interpretation of the natural, namely that their physical houses contain physical weapons, but that their spiritual dwelling places – even their very bodies & souls [Rom 6:12-13] – are indwelt by demons: spiritual “instruments of cruelty”). Let not my soul enter their council (let not my ears or eyes incline to the ways of wickedness, “keep me” O Lord, my strength); Let not my honour be united  to their assembly (let not The Name of God be disgraced in association with their conduct [also see my previous post on Genesis 49:3-4]; reminding us even of such causes for pause and shuddering as extrapolated upon in 1 Cor 6:15-17); For in their anger they slew a man (effectively doing – as witnessed and declared by The Patriarch himself verbatim, word for word – precisely what we are commanded not to do, namely: “in your anger do not sin” [Eph 4:26 NIV]; it is also here now confirmed that what they were unable to accomplish in murdering the Christ-type Joseph, ultimately did have its final outworking in this instance of the Cain-type “shedding of innocent blood” which God detests [Prov 6:16-17]; also then establishing that abiding murderous spirit which then finally seems to have taken a  hold of them), And in their self-will (having wholly departed from The Will of God, “for where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there” [James 3:16]) they hamstrung an ox (and have become as the unrighteous, the unbelieving, the wicked, for “a righteous man regards the life of his animal, But [even] the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel” [Prov 12:10] 😣)Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel! (Again we recognise here the subtle allusions made implying that God is rather addressing the demonic spirits that have taken a hold of Simeon and Levi as these murderous characteristics become personified as a thing embodied that can be accursed as an “it“, and therein reminding us also that our war is “not against flesh and blood” and that these are the true “enemies of God” eternally damned. For how else could such a harbinger of [compassionate High] priesthood [Hebrews 4:14-16] ultimately be found in the Levite tribe; how can such a high calling and profound anointing come upon a people if it is they themselves that are here so utterly accursed?) I will divide them in Jacob (here perhaps we recognise most undeniably [see ** below] that it is indeed God speaking through Jacob as he is referred to in the third person – possibly even without his present knowledge – he himself most probably having entered a type of trance / dissociative state at this point) And scatter (such entities shall not maintain a stronghold – despite the territory gained here thus far – within The Nation of God ultimately) them in Israel.”

* This I believe to have taken place at the moment they sought to slay our Joseph: the Christ-type whom God had sent into the world for such a time as that, to save the people from certain death. We ought not then to be surprised at detecting a similar demonic influence spurring on these brothers as would have spurred on the Roman soldiers yielded to the enemy in much the same way to inflict incomprehensible cruelties upon Our Lord.

** It is perhaps also just worth mentioning at this point that Jacob is currently so strong In The Spirit, speaking so profoundly and so prophetically on God’s behalf – clearly transcending any human capacity for wisdom & understanding [Rom 11:33] and the concise verbal expression thereof – that one clean forgets that these powerful, uncompromising and bold exclamations come from the mouth of a very old infirm man on his deathbed, his humanity and frailty wholly superseded by The Will of God.
