Verse 14
“14And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.”
– Genesis 47:14 (NKJV)
“And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.”
(As we reflect upon this passage let us be reminded of the rich young ruler who came to Our Lord earnestly seeking eternal life. Upon Our Lord admonishing him to sell all that he had, he was not merely addressing the idolatrous relationship with worldly possessions of one individual, but making a much more important statement: The Kingdom of God is worthy of our surrendering all, paying any price to obtain The Bread of Life. So worthy, so precious, so incomparably rich are the things of God that we ought to seek to retain nothing at the expense Thereof. We must be prepared to offer up family [Matt 10:37], riches [Matt 19:21], even our entire lives as living sacrifices [Rom 12:1], Trusting also that we will receive that which we have placed upon the altar in its redeemed form – good, acceptable and perfect – from The Father’s Hand in the appointed time and at His discretion [Matt 19:29-30; Proverbs 10:22; Luke 17:33]. It is furthermore worth mentioning that the phrase “brought the money into Pharaoh’s house ” reflects our necessary understanding that all ultimately belongs to God, The Most High Ruler, here represented in Pharoah, and that whatever we receive is but lent to us from His Gracious Hand. This whole verse then becomes a reiteration, a prophetic harbinger of The Truth revealed in Malachi 3:10, namely:
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.”)
