These were the sons of Zilpah (one of many harbingers of The Promise To The Gentiles that is to come to fulfilment under the New Covenant, the “every nation” that King David as psalmist so prophetically hails again and again), whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bore to Jacob (“to the Jew first . . .” , let us however never grow indifferent to the exceedingly great privilege of being included in The Promise, willing always to come with a humble servant’s heart before The Original Children of Promise, The Great Nation of Israel) : sixteen persons.”
